This final entry in תְּהִלִּים (T'hilim), the Book of Psalms, embodies the word תְּהִלָּה (t'hilah), "song of praise," that gives the Book of Psalms its name. Derived from the same root, ה-ל-ל (h-l-l), the command הַלְלוּ (hal'lu), "sing out in praise," begins all but one line. Most translations render הַלְלוּ (hal'lu) simply as "praise," but leaving out the sonic connotations of the word does a great disservice to this prayer filled with sonic imagery.
